Prasad S. Adusumilli
I am a general thoracic surgeon specializing in thoracic cancers; including lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mesothelioma, mediastinal tumors, and metastases to the lungs. My clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery for early-stage lung and esophageal cancers, and palliative surgical therapies for advanced-stage cancers.
I conduct laboratory research with a focus on developing gene therapies for thoracic cancers. These therapies include immunotherapy (enhancing one's own immune system using genetic engineering) and oncolytic viral therapy (killing cancer cells using genetically engineered viruses). This research has been supported by the American Association for Cancer Research, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Flight Attendent Medical Research Institute, and the American Geriatric Society.
